    Hi Guys:

I spoke to some collegues at the VA, and I just found out that there are system wide hiring freezes. The VA will not even replace anyone who retires despite an increase in Veterans who are coming back from the war. This may be regional, not sure if its national yet. Instead of cutting funding for VA service providers, congress should be cutting funding to all those unjustified wars we are in. There goes another job opportunity.

Also, my HR department informed me that our VA no longer provides the Education Debt Reduction Program. Awesome!

Whether or not the V.A. is undergoing a gross hiring freeze, the number of psychologists they will hire in the future is likely going to decrease. The V.A. Central Office in D.C. recently gave individual V.A.s the green light to hire LPCs in addition to social workers. Therefore, a lot of psychologist positions will likely be ciphened off by the utilization of master's level practitioners :(

Supposedly VISN 16 is under a freeze as well, but apparently lateral movement is still occurring. For instance, our med center's pain specialist is left, and is being replaced by a psychologist from another large VA. So... it is confusing.

Geeze louise..... thank God for comprehensive assessment and testing. That is still our domain, right?
