Is this really the take-home annual salary for a Chief Psychiatrist in the VA?:

This tends to be the hiring salary range for psychiatrists:

Clinical psychologists in the VA make about the same money, and they usually don't have loans!

I believe that since the entering grade is 14/15, the psychiatrist will make much closer to the 116k mark. Probably around 112k...which is still completely unacceptable unless you're looking for that specific kind of job or the hours are so light that you can supplement with an extra 50k-80k on the side.

According to the website you listed, the psychologists will top out at under 100k.

That is just the base pay. Add to that scarce specialty pay, geographic location pay, boards pay and every two years longevity pay. Staff psychiatrists starting out who are boarded go for $160,000. Those ads are misleading because they don't list the bonus pay that physicians get.

Federal employees also enjoy an excellent retirement pension - far superior to Social Security.

If you would like to view the complete list of Arkansas State employees, go to the KTHV T.V. (Little Rock) website and follow the link. There is also a link to ALL UAMS employees under the first link. Beware however, those salaries are BASE salaries. Most physicians make much more than what is listed; however, by my standards, their listed salaries are fine.

Is the same true for clinical psychologists employed by the VA?

No they do not get the physician bonuses, because they are not physicians.
