Vagus Nerve Stimulator

Now that the vagus nerve stimulator has received FDA approval for the treatment of chronic depression, there is increased interest in this procedure. What do folks think of the VNS (efficacy, effectiveness, cost, will it be popular among providers and patients, etc). Considering psychologists conduct organ transplant recipient evaluations, gastric bypass evaluations, and other evaluations for various surgical procedures, will psychologists be involved in VNS evaluations?

Some of the major medical centers employ clinical neuropsychologists for this purpose. Post-doctoral fellowships also exist that provide training opportunities in VNS evaluations.
