I couldn't find one, so I'm starting my own. If there already is one, someone please correct me for my ignorance...

How did Vandy contact you? Did they call you, if so was it on Friday as it seemed to occur last year?

I have heard that the second look weekend is great. (The fact that they are flying us out there is pretty cool.) It seems like a good sign of how they treat their students . . . I hope.

yeah, my student guides when i interviewed said second look was so much fun that you should go even if you knew you weren't going to vandy...

speaking of, are you pretty sure you're going to vandy? or still weighing options?

I really liked Vandy when I visited, so I am pretty excited. You?

see y'all at second look

What are people choosing to attend for the second look weekend? Is anyone choosing the organ concert over the MICU?

Hey future classmates -- the Organ Recital was up there for me, as well as a few of the hospital ones. It'll be interesting to see how those 2 sessions are run. The whole thing will probably conjure up nostalgic feelings about the interview day... 😍

Nice to meet you all, future classmates
see you after Spring Break 😉

So who all is attending?

Also, any word on where medical students typically live in Nashville?

A lot of students typically rent houses or apartments behind the medical center in "the village"- hillsboro village. There are a lot of apartments nearby but undergrads fill up a lot of them!

Hey everyone...CONGRATS!!!!!!!! I am currently an undergrad at Vandy, so if you have any questions about the school or the city I would be thrilled to answer them. Just ask!

Just curious, does Vandy use any PBL in the med school curriculum?

I was wondering if any vandy students here could give me an idea of how hectic 1st year and 2nd year is? I couldn't help but notice in the academic calendar for first years that lectures/labs are usually scheduled from 8am - 5 pm. That sounds to me like after class, you wouldn't really have time for anything besides going home/ preparing and eating dinner/studying.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think Vandy uses any PBL. Their curriculum is one of the most traditional in the country... I think the emphasis thing is kind of their attempt to spice up the curriculum....

The hectic nature of Vandy's curriculum seems to be relative to the person and their particular learning style...although there are a ton of hours devoted lecture (and anatomy* in the 1st semester, of course), by second semester, students tend not to find lectures obligatory (30% attendence or thereabouts). According to my close friend/VMS I, much of the lecture material is delivered "as is" from the professors' handouts/slides with the occasional had-to-be-in-class-to-get-this-one-right zingers on the test (e.g., what bacterium infected my son this winter?). As many others have said, you find your most efficient means of preparing for the exams -- the lectures are really a small part of the necessary active learning you will be doing most of the time, without a doubt.
*The deans have mentioned a curriculum change which reduces the amount of anatomy material taught by as much as 40% for next year's entering class -- apparently the class of 2010 will not be that lucky.

One apparent bonus to doggedly attending classes day in and day out: The free lunches you can pick up at any given seminar being hosted that day... 😎 grab 'n go.

Just joining this thread.

I'm trying to figure out when to head up to Vandy for a housing search. Does anyone know how scarce good apartments are? If I head up there in early june will I be able to find a decent place?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

hey guys, i just got in and accepted off the waitlist.

look forward to meeting you all

Does anyone know if Vanderbilt has class rankings? Also remind me of the grading system if you could. I think it's HP/P/F for the first 2 years but not 100% sure. Thanks.

I was accepted off the waitlist on the 17th of May, and an really pumped to be going to Vandy. As I remember, Vandy still uses grades, but I could be wrong. And it's not hard to find housing at all near the med center (I'm from nashville).

Out of curiousity, are a lot of you Vandy's acceptees pretty set on attending, or are you guys waiting for the waitlist at other schools?

You mind me asking where you guys are considering?

I was recently accepted and will be attending, but I haven't yet had the luxury of meeting any of my classmates. Anyway, I'm a Vandy undergrad alum, so I know the city well, and will be in town this weekend if anybody wants to grab a beer or coffee. congrats everyone and i look forward devoting 99% of my time over the next year to achieving a higher gpa than all of you...

hi everyone,

this is completely off topic to anything else. for any of you current vandy people do you know how hard it is to transfer into the third year. i talked to someone there who said theyve taken about 11 people total over the last 3 years, so i was just wondering if anyone knew the details..
thanks!
