NJMS recently accepted me. 🙂 I was wondering if Vanderbilt was a great school because I am thinking about withdrawing and not going for an interview. Is this a bad idea? How do you know which school you want to attend? Can you know without going on a tour?

Congrats on your acceptance! I though Vandy was an amazing school, and I really enjoyed my time there. I think if you've got the cash, you should check it out.

Yeah, Vandy was pretty cool! As long as you're willing to do the secondary and have the money to pay for the trip, you should go (like serikk said)

I've heard great things about the place. I'd check it out if I were in your shoes.

WELL, maybe I can help. Vandy is indeed an awesome school, and I didn't really realize it until I showed up there. The students were the nicest and friendliest I met anywhere. The faculty seems to be INSANELY nice and supportive (I sat through a lecture and the professor cracked jokes and seemed really chill at least) and the students talk about how great the professors are. The interviewer I had told me that he had been hired with the understanding that he'd welcome any and every med student who wanted to work with him- that's pretty awesome. The facilities are fantastic (great anatomy lab, great children's hospital) and it's all very student-centric. Nashville is, well.......interesting, but definitely in a good way, as far as I can tell. They have one of the highest average board scores in the country (like, top 3-- but take this with a grain of salt, since apparently this data isn't always super-accurate) and a great research project (the emphasis project) built into the curriculum. The residency match list (again, to be taken with a grain of salt) certainly looks extremely impressive.
Altogether, I fell totally in love with it when I went there, BUT if your top choice is definitely NJMS, then you should drop the interview and allow them to interview someone who really really wants to go there 🙂.

Withdraw, so I can have your interview spot. Please?

No, in all seriousness, I really think you should go.

Like everyone said, Vandy is a great school...
BUT...
expensive...really is.
And I mean there really is not point in going if you are not seriously checking it out...cos check out their interview/acceptance rate...I think its one of the lowest, so what wld be the point.
But ya it is a pretty cool school from what I hear..

Ok, I'll bite, since no one else has. If you care at all about school rankings (*cough*, Vandy = 16), you should go to this interview. Plus Vandy is rated number 1 for happiest students or something like that.

I completely agree with Let. My interview day at Vandy was one of the best interview days that I've had. The students are honestly some of the nicest and smartest people that I've had the pleasure of meeting. I spent a few extra days in Nashville outside of my interview day and the first and second years were both practicing for some of their intermural games that they play between the classes. Both classes are really cohesive and I'd really recomend that you visit Vandy if you have the funds to do so!

Vandy was really nice, but if you really liked NJMS, then monetarily that is definitely the better option for you. Cant beat is tuition.

I think if you're uninterested enough in a school to ask if you should change your mind not to go to the interview, you should probably not go to the interview.

I also reaffirm what everyone says that it's a top-notch school. All I can really add to the discussion is that not ALL students there are as nice as the ones people have run into.

I would definitely go. I interviewed there and NEVER expected to get accepted, given the low interview/acceptance rate, but I did! 🙂 And I definitely second what everyone else has said--it's a great school!

Can anyone tell me how long it took to hear from Vanderbilt post interview? I interviewed there on September 12th and have heard nothing yet.

I was told 6-8 weeks, so I'm sure your decision is coming soon
