Hi all,

I am strongly considering the field of rad onc. It seems like a fascinating mix of technical work and patient contact. I was wondering about the variety of the profession--do rad oncs do a lot of cool stuff? I've heard people saying that it's a unimodal profession. I was just curious as to whether there is a good amount of intellectual stimulation during an average day. Vague question, I know, sorry about that.

Thanks so much!

Yes we use proton pumps and blast people with radiation, no better feeling in the world

Thanks for the reply! Is there a lot of variety in "blasting radiation"?

Yes, depending on the Location of the tumors, there can be a lot of precision required or very little for total body. Also in terms of intellectually stimulating, I have yet to be bored on the job and I've been doing this for 6 years. That's the beauty of medicine no two people are the same.
