I just interviewed there and stayed at the Commonwealth Park Suites. It is just a few blocks from the campus. It worked for me. They have a special rate of $74 a night for people interviewing at VCU.

The Crown Plaza was very nice too for same student rate ($74). But it is not as close as Commonwealth Suites. I think about half a mile away.
