congrats godbless,i dont have much knowledge about vcu,i think its space based program......you should surely go for the interview....goodluck......

What school is VCU? DO you mind posting the complete name of the school please?

hi Godbless, congratulations for getting the one more interview call , well i have never heard about VCU, all the best. bye.

VCU = Virignia Commonwealth University

Their advanced standing is space-based, 3 year program. It's in Richmond, Virginia. Usually, the preference is for the VA in-state residents.

well...VCU doest really really have a advanced placement program..they would interview u and tell u to take DAT.AND THEN THEY WOULD TELL U that u have to take few more classes coz ur credits to take DAT are not complete.and then u compete with 1000's other students who are looking into dental school too.for the 4 year program..
I have tried this for HOWARD dental school D.C. but if thiis is different then good luck.
what do u guys think about this.

Hi. Why are you nervous? Its worth a try. U never know if it works out. Go for it. Its like a door opening for you, so go ahead and peek in to see if its the right one. Why be nervous man! Good luck!

I was interviewed at VCU 2 yrs back and I agree with starbucks fan.Thats the exact stuff they tell you. They gave me high hopes of admission and finally told me that they didnt have spots for that year. This happened to me twice. That was the only school I applied 2 years as I couldnt leave Richmond. But was so frustrated and applied a 2 yr program and luckily got in. But who knows if you are lucky they may have spot this year.So have hopes and try your best. They will ask you to write an essay like what are your strengths and weaknesses or why did you choose dentistry etc; When I went for the interview I had 3 on 1. I didnt go last year but was told that it was pretty much same.Hope this helps.

Hi godbless. i hope your interview goes really good. are u a VA state resident?

hi godbless,
i have a similar exp as amdoc at vcu. i was interviewed there last year.it was 3 on 1 interview .they interviewed me basically on things written in my sop....(for some 45mins).then i was asked to write an essay on 'why amongst all the candidates i should be the one who's selected?'
i was told that they never had a vacancy in past2 yrs or so and that they were conducting interviews to be 'prepared ' just in case one happens.they then couselled me(brainwashed shud be the right word) to join their regular program instead of waiting for a vacancy .i was given info and brochures on DAT !!(even after seeing good scores on part1 and 2 they wanted me to go back and take DAT).
there were 3 more candidates on the same day but everyone had a different time slot.
i wud say be prepared becoz u never know whether a vacancy wud happen this year or not.take it as a rehersal for the interviews .

hi
thanks dipali for ur input, they told me that i wud be given half an hour to write an essay.........i asked if it is gonna be related ot dentistry, they cudnt answer that, but i guess after reading urs and amdoct 's post i think it should be somthing in general,.also the lady i spoke to told me they r conducting interviews for only one post, rest all seats r filled now, but later when i asked her how many spots they had, she said she doesnt know, this is dissappointing that they might not have any vacany and still conduct interviews, but i have nothing to loose so i shal take this oppurtunity............if u can remember anyithng else form ur interivew, please lemme know

hey godbless
good luck for ur interview....I live in virginia too.......and its sooo sad that there are no schools near the capital that accept foreign trained dentists...anyways hope u do well and get in....good luck.......

Going for VCU School of Dentistry interview on April 18, 2006. As far as I know there is no seat for this year. But they might have (relax VCU say this every year) one or two by June 1, when the result for current 1st year student's term exam comes out. VCU did not admit anyone to their AS program after 2001. Anyway admission office know I already have NYU offer. I live in Richmond so it won't hurt me to make another trip to downtown!

I had the interview at VCU School of Dentistry yesterday, April 18 at 9 am. There were at least 6 candidates. I didn't meet the last candidate as he/she was writing the essay. We were staggered in half hour gap. First candidate came at 8-30 am, wrote the essay then at 9 went for interview. But the interview got delayed for me and rest of the candidates as my previous candidate and I were interviewed for well over half an hour. Essay topic was something like 'why VCUSD should consider me as an excellent applicant'. 3 faculty members interviewed us in a 3 to 1 fashion. They made me comfortable all throughout the interview and overall it was good. Usual questions 'Why USA? Why VCUSD? Past career? Future plan? Any question? etc.' At the end the interviewers informed that they don't have any seat available right now but will get in touch with me if one/more become/s available and they decide to select me. I have toured the school several times in the past. One compact five storey building in the vicinity of Medical College of Virginia. It accepts 90 regular candidates every year. Facilities/infrastructures are comparable with most other State/Public schools.

As far as I know VCUSD is getting lots of 'DentSlim' simulators in the near future and probably will surpass all US dental schools ((in number of DentSlims).

That's all folks. Lets see what happens. Richmond is my hometown and as it is a 3 year program (comparable to NYUCD), VCUSD is currently my first choice.

good luck rahmed :luck: i hope they have some vacant spots this year.

If they don't have any seats why should they call for the interview, that's really bad.
