The most effective strategy is to read intelligently and focus on the structure of AAMC questions and figure out what sort of logical tricks they employ.
Both Kaplan and EK encourage this differently. Kaplan is definitely more of a "notation" strategy, while EK states outright that notation isn't such a good idea and prefers one reads for the big picture (though both claim to have that as the ultimate goal).
It's about as simple as that.
I prefer EK's method.
