I am currently a Senior in highschool about to graduate in about 2 weeks. Basically I have been looking at MCAT stuff just to see how it is like, and I keep on hearing how Verbal is the hardest part. This scares the living hell out of me considering that I suck at english. Is there any way to study for this section starting now. I want to make this one of my strong sections.

Thank You

I have more than 4 months until my test, is there anything you suggest?

There are two things you might want to consider. First, aim for mastery of the material in all of your pre-reqs. Don't go simply for the A. Know the material cold. Next, is reading various materials. Here's my suggested reading list:

Wall Street Journal
New Yorker
Economist
Random science journals

For philosophy articles, I suggest you go to your library or bookstore and pick up a compilation book on Western or Eastern philosophy.

Remember to read the boring articles as well as the interesting ones. Chances are your MCAT verbal passages won't be the most exciting read.

40 questions, 60 minutes.

You could also read some classical literature, like Pride and Prejudice or Great Expectations. When it's a story versus an article, your comprehension is really tested because you have to stay up on what is happening or you'll be completely lost and miss out on the fun.

Wow, so just saw you're in HS. Definitely read novels in your spare time, say, during school breaks. I've been a voracious reader since I could read, and verbal is very easy for me. So just read! Now!

Ya I am definitely going to start reading a lot more. Is there a limited number of passages or does it vary by test?

Read difficult materials and develop your vocabulary.

And anything else regarding MCAT, stay away and don't even ask - just enjoy life.

I know this sounds bad but I am holding certain grudges from a couple of colleges that rejected me from their undergrad. So I want to do well so I can get accepted into their school and then reject them. I know I can do well in sciences it is just that I am really nervous about the Verbal. So sorry if I ask so many questions, but I have another one. Is everything in Verbal all reading composition or is there vocabulary and whats wrong with the sentence thing like in the SATs?

Applying to certain medical schools just to reject them not only makes you sound like still a high school student, but lacks seriousness and motivation toward medicine that you should have. Plus, what makes you think that you will be able to get accepted to those schools for sure? This is a rhetorical question - don't answer it.

Anyway, putting that aside for no more further discussion (for your own sake), my best recommendation for you is to challenge yourself in humanities courses and develop your reading skills. Get a habit of reading newspapers. MCAT is vastly different from SAT, and those who make correlation between those two (check out hSDN if you are bored.. that's where high school students are) are inaccurate. They are two very different tests.

Honestly, like I said, enjoy life now. Do something fun or relaxing. You will have plenty of time to think about MCAT later.

That's quite possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard on this forum. Once you better understand how the process works I'm sure you won't be doing that.

Verbal on the MCAT is all passage-based and asks question about the actual passage, not the meaning of words or anything like that. The questions are very broad, open-ended, and altogether ambiguous. It's not like the SAT at all really.

Wow guys I just read what I wrote and that was the biggest troll comment ever. So I want to apologize for making such a rediculous comment. I would appreciate it if no one would talk about that post after this comment.

Now back to the topic at hand. English isn't my strong suit so I am going to take your guys advice and enjoy myself/ read a lot. I am going to read both interesting books and boring articles. Who knows I may even read the 1000 page thing about cabbages.
