Hi guys,

Could someone clarify what specialties does a gen surg resident rotate in?

I read somewhere that it is purely abdo surgery. I am asking because in the UK trainees do upper and lower GI, vascular and breast surgery. Some might also do plastics, ortho CT or uro.

Thanks a lot for the clarification : )

Dependent on program which subspecialties, but pretty universal is upper gi, colorectal, CT, vascular, Onc including breast. Some programs rotate through plastics, ortho, GU, etc as interns for sure.

As you get further along, most have longer rotations in the gen surg cores, gi, colorectal, Onc.

Interesting. Much better and broader: a true generalist!

It must suck if you for example want to end up doing colorectal : )
