Ive got a question for you all...

Im applying to AEGDs/GPRs and have spent 10+ years in the Army / Reserves. Through that time I have racked up a multitude of Commendation / Achievement Medals, Honor Graduate, Commandant's List, Certificates of Achievement etc. In no way am I trying to brag, its just kind of how the Army is, anyone that has spent over a decade in the Military probably has a stack of this stuff too.

As I go through adding it in PASS under my Achievements and Experiences - Im wondering does any / all of it matter??... Should I be including it all in my application?

Any PDs / Veterans / literally anyone (lol) have any insight? Thanks in advance!

I put achievement/ commendation medals, but left off certificates of achievement. Putting all your awards and achievements won’t hurt anything. If the program directors have a military background it could help a lot. If they don’t, they just won’t have any clue what you are talking about. Regardless, doesn’t hurt to beef up an application.

I was kind of thinking the opposite - Military background = sees all my COAs / Good Conduct Medals / Deployment medals etc as BS, no Military background = thinks they are significant LOL.. Im applying to quite a few VA programs so hopefully it will help.

In the Summary section Im just quoting the Award.. I feel like it's pretty ambiguous though.. Think I should actually explain it my own terms "I was a member of a 4 man team that over saw XYZ" or quote the Award like "For exceptional meritorious yada yada"?

That’s actually a good point. Didn’t really think of it that way. Someone who doesn’t know the significance of the award may think it’s a bigger deal than it is. I would keep the descriptions short and sweet. Your own words may help their understanding, but the SOA always sounds damn good.

My 2 cents:

as someone who is unfamiliar with the military awards saying the words “exceptional meritorious yada yada” make you sound like you have a lot of character and leadership qualities

I would put it in. Most of the things I see on GPR applications fall into 2 categories.....real honor society stuff......and a lot of fluff.
Military awards would seem more legitimate, so go ahead.
