Hey friends,

I used the search bar, and it's been a long time since someone's asked this. My question is this: is there any resource out there (a Pathoma or Sketchy, etc.) equivalent for medical school physiology. I do love my Costanzo book, but I really need to be able to visualize things moving and interacting // have verbal reinforcement of physiology-related material.

Any sites that helped? I already have BNB and Goljan, but I'm looking for solid, detailed physiology lectures... not just Step1 review if that makes sense.

Thank you :)

Najeeb has them, but they are long.

I use physeo, and can attest that they’re pretty good. Not pathoma/sketchy good - but the best I’ve been amble to come by so far.

The BNB phys is pretty decent honestly.

I use physeo, its solid. Definitely not in depth though, very surface level enough to get main concepts down

combine costanzo with BnB and you should be good. To memorize the formulas just do zanki physio decks for correlated organ system

Thanks for the advice, guys. I actually decided to buy Physeo just to try it out.

In the company's defense, they're med students who took time off to make this company after Step1... and that's exactly what the Sketchy guys did too.

Maybe they're onto something!

How would you say Physeo compares to Lecturio? I have also been thinking about this but lecturio has a neat feature that lets you take a picture of BRS costanzo/FA and matchs videos for you .. not too sure on quality of videos though

Also lecturio comes with a q bank

Hey, Guys! I'm Steve, with Physeo. I hope I'm ok to post this here. Physeo is pretty new, so I wanted to share this with you to provide some insight as to who we are:

Similar to the founders of other USMLE prep resources, Rhett and Michael (co-founders and content directors) took some time off of school to create Physeo. They were hesitant to do so, but their administration at the University of Utah was not only supportive, but actually highly encouraging based on their own academic performance and achievements leading up to and including Step 1.

Rhett and Michael had just started third year when they approached their administration about taking time off to build Physeo, so they were able to back out of their rotations early enough to not incur any penalties. At that point, they began working full-time to get everything put together. Not only do Rhett and Michael have a uniquely strong grasp of physiology, but they actually spent a lot of time working and consulting with specialists on the content as well. They also worked very closely with a USMLE content writer for Step 1 that their administration was able to get them in touch with. That contact was particularly beneficial, as a big part of what makes Physeo so powerful is the large number of board-style review questions that are integrated into, and gone over in each video (a sort of built in, interactive q bank). Because of that contact, they were able to learn in detail how to create questions that will help prepare students for the actual exam. Another thing that they did in creating the content was to heavily cross-reference all of the material with resources like FA and Uworld – hundreds of pages and many thousands of q bank questions were referenced. Since FA and Uworld are certainly benchmarks, we wanted Physeo to run parallel with them for consistency (Physeo and Uworld work incredibly well together).

Having just completed their own Step 1 exams, Rhett and Michael each had a fresh and intimate understanding of the way the test works, and what is required to do well on it, and they were able to apply that to Physeo. Physiology is similar to pathology in that it is not something that you can simply memorize; you actually have to learn the concepts and mechanisms. With that in mind, Rhett and Michael worked to make it as visual as possible by including tons of diagrams, drawings and visual explanations to help break down, and demystify it in a way that sticks. They also wanted the content to be concise enough to actually be able to be used effectively during dedicated study, so lots or work went into making sure that Physeo delivers all of the physiology content that you need, and none that you don’t. All of this has helped to make Physeo an extremely succinct and effective resource.

Physeo was released one day before Thanksgiving of 2016 with only three sections available at the time, and since then has been used/is being used by nearly 10,000 medical students both domestically and internationally, with that number increasing exponentially each day. A massive amount of work went into, and goes into Physeo every single day. We are constantly working to review and perfect the content and provide the best experience possible. After all of it, it has been extremely rewarding to hear the success stories from students, and how they have been able to benefit from it. The response from students toward Physeo has been incredible and overwhelming and it's been a privilege to be a part of.

We're happy to help any way can, so please get in touch any time if there is ever anything that we can do for any of you. Take care!

are goljan recorded audio lectures available somewhere secret?

Clinical Key apparently has a few Costanzo videos...but just a few...anyone know if she has a full lecture series available anywhere? Renal phys is coming up and I was told by others in my class to look for any and all resources to do well just for the course.

boards and beyond renal phys is plenty. read costanzo + watch BnB = master at renal physiology

Najeeb > Everybody, Everything.

Maybe a stupid question, but when people say Costanzo, they mean BRS physio right? Just because I noticed BRS physio has that name in the authors, and I put 2 and 2 together in my mind. Just curious in case you all are referring to some other book by this person.

I want to agree, but I just cant bring myself to do that. For neuro, I decided to go all out on Najeeb - all 60 or 80 videos. When I was done, I covered BnB to see if I missed anything.

I regret wasting so much time on those Najeeb videos (most of which are over an hour), which had worse tie ins and werent as well organized as the BnB vids. I would have been better served by doing two passes of BnB (which I could have easily done in the same time), quite frankly.

Costanzo is the author of 2 phys review books. BRS = skinny Linda, Elsevier = fat Linda. Skinny Linda is bare bones outline, where as Fat Linda is more fleshed out, but still review and they complement each other really well. I have yet to hear of any videos that surpass the Lindas in quality, plus they’re cheap and easy to get through. Between those and the Guyton and Hall qbank anyone should be set for phys during MS1 and Step 1.
