What would you say the minimum volume (surgicals) of a program needs to be in order to be adequate? One PD told me not to look anywhere with less than 18000 surgicals each year.
I was just speaking with a faculty about this very topic. What he had to say was this: When he did his residency at UW (early 70's), they had about 7,000 surgicals a year, but the residents saw EVERYTHING that went through the hospital, and spent alot of time studying each one. So, I guess you can still get good training at a program that doesn't have the numbers.
