i presently work in a clinical setting for a group of ophthalmologists. i was wondering if i still need to do any volunteer work in the ER for example seeing as how i am already working with patients. i get to work directly with patients now, how would other volunteer work benefit me?

Don't volunteer in an ER because you think it will look good.

Volunteer where you WANT to volunteer.

Do you have any interest in Opthamology? Or was it just a convenient volunteer spot?

If you have a true interest in this area of medicine, you are in a great spot. If you want to be a radiologist, for example, maybe consider doing some volunteer hours somewhere else.

You may get asked in an interview why you chose to volunteer here.

Again, having a broader sense of medicine, meaning volunteering in more than one setting, can only help you.

Best of luck to you!
