Alright,

currently i have been working (non volunteering) as an EMT for the past 5 months and i assume i will continue doing that or become a PCA. With that being said, i will have quite a good amount of pt. experience once i apply (about 2 years from now). I also am doing research in a cancer research lab (on pace to run own experiments, present, etc.) and am a research assistant in a brain injury psych lab (pt. interviews, more of a hospital setting exp./clinical exp than research exp.).

I do plan on stopping the psych injury lab at the beginning of the school year just because i've really got the most i can get out of it. So as of now, once school starts i plan on being in the cancer lab and working as an emt. However, i also got offered a position in another psych lab which would have me running magnetic brain therapies on pts. this would count as class credits so it would technically be considered research. I think it would be a great experience but i'm not sure it's be a great idea to take since i don't have many volunteer hours. currently i've only volunteered about 25 hours in a hospital and about 25 hours for the red cross. The magnetic therapy would be about 3hr/week for the next year, but i'm think maybe it would be better to volunteer at a free clinic or somewhere like that instead.

So... since i will already have a good amount of hands on pt. exp, should i start to volunteer or take the magnetic therapy spot instead? I honestly dont have time for both.

tl; dr... start volunteering (something i haven't done a lot of), or non-volunteer hands on pt. exp. (something i have a good amount of, but it is a great position that is offered)

Thanks guys

Edit: sorry for the somewhat misleading title!

My advice would be: Do more of what you are interested in and worry less about what things are classified as.

You seem to have a great portfolio of experiences already and have more lined up. It seems a waste to me to pass these up to volunteer "just to volunteer."

Regardless, I'm going to keep the EMT job and the cancer research position. However, i'm just not sure if it would be more beneficial for my application to have volunteering (show me as more altruistic) or to go ahead with the therapy position.
