This is a "copy-cat" thread from the pre-allopathic forum "holding multiple acceptances". Is is realistic for us pre-osteopathic students to place a deposit for multiple schools and make our decision on which school to attend based on the financial aid package? I realize that the deposit for MD schools are dirt cheap compared to DO schools. But I think it's not a bad idea to wait and see what schools are offering you to attend.

I assume you are talking about merit aid. There is a little thrown around here and there at osteopathic schools, but unless you have a stellar MCAT and GPA, you shouldn't hold your breath. …. Stellar… as in +38 and 4.0.

Go to the school that you like the best and don't worry about the financial aid. It's worth spending the cash to go someplace you really love.

No. Most DO schools don't give scholarships. Your financial aid package will be loans.

Either way, your decision needs to be based on other factors.

the deposits are so big, that i wouldn't want to make multiple ones. plus, most osteopathic medical schools don't give scholarships, so the aid packages are going to be pretty similar.

I second what exlawgrrl said. Does anyone know how much and when the deposits are due at the following schools once accepted: LECOM, COMP and TOURO. Thanks.

I think all DO schools can only require deposits by December 15th according to like the official rules or something.

i didn't write it down, but i think comp requires a $1k deposit by dec. 1, and i've heard touro requires a big (maybe $2k) deposit within a few weeks of acceptance.

i think those rules are more a suggestion than a requirement. 🙂 most schools follow them but not all seem to.

TOURO-CA requires the deposit be received within two weeks of an acceptance.

Both of the Touro schools do. $2000 from acceptance, then another $1000 by may 15th. The 2k deposit is nonrefundable if you don't attend.

LECOM-PA has scholarships available but only offer them to students after their first year.

Hey futuredoc, didn't you interview at LECOM? Have you heard anything? I interviewed today and they said that the committee will meet on Wednesday for my group to determine the acceptances but to not expect to hear from them for 3 weeks.

Yes. I interviewed at LECOM-PA on 09/29 and LECOM-FL on 10/04. It has been over two weeks for LECOM-PA. It will be three weeks this Thursday. I was told the admissions committee met on 10/06 and that we (those interviewing before 10/06) could expect to hear from them the following week. I haven't heard anything yet. According to you I should be getting a letter from them this week. I don't remember about the three-week deal. I guess I was spacing out. Good luck :luck: .
