I want to start this post for all the people waiting for Dec 1st Acceptance to Howard University College of Dentistry! What are you doing to kill the anxiety?! When did you interview? I interviewed October 10, 2008 first day of interviews so the wait really sucks!!! If I get accepted, I am going to quit my stupid job and go back home to Jamaica and party it up before school starts!!

its all you buddy, you got it...

Hey I interviewed with you on October 10, 2008 and you are right the wait is terrible. To kill the anxiety I am just praying. Ive done all I can do and Ive done it to the best of my ability, all I can do is wait. Ive also found someone on here that attends Howard who is in the same boat I was in as far as interviewing early who has been a real Godsend when it comes to answering questions and squashing some of the tension and anxiety. Other than that working and continuing to shadow along with prayer is helping. If you want someone to bounce some anxiety off of you can always hit me up and we can get through the stress together!!! :)

I'll soon be there with you lol. What was the interview like?

LOl thanks Drdent2be I want to see if I can remember you. Were you the scared girl from washington dc, the girl from temple, guy from NY, the girl that's dating the dentist, the quite girl that interviewed first or 2nd, the caribbean girl doing the BSDDS? Sorry just curious hahahah I-Baby the interview was ok. Check the interview reviews and thats exactly what it was like. Good luck to all of us!

I could have been a number of those things. I am from DC and I did interview first. But as far as being scared I dont think I was that. Kinda nervous when it came to that essay and how the topic/how we wrote the answer would affect us, but not so much scared. I sat across from you at the big table.

How do you know who I am? Because I said Jamaica? Ok Ms. CVS. Do you still work there? I might drop by and say hello. Lol

I am still at CVS. You should drop by. Thatd be cool

lol. I will stop by today because I need something from there anyway.

Ok Ill see you there...being that you dont know which CVS I work at...lol...anyway hey maybe you can help me out. there is a chart in this Pre-Dental Forum somewhere that shows the ratio of interviews: acceptances. I cant figure out how to read it. Do you know how to, specifically for Howard of course. But in general as well.

Can you post the specific link so I can take a look?

Sorry for making the post so long. It was posted by a doc toothache on 9-11-2008

Checked out that thread a while back and finally found out what it meant after everyone discussed it. It reads like this (from the order you posted):

- 16 students applied from In State - 7 were interviewed, 7 were accepted
- 2530 students applied from Out of State - 170 were interviewed, 129 were accepted
- In total 177 were interviewed and 136 were accepted meaning 76.8% of applicants were accepted into Howard

It means that according to last years stats, you have a 76.8% chance of getting accepted if you received an interview, and probably even higher if you interviewed pre-December 1st.

I interviewed on October 31st and it was awesome, good luck to all of you in this thread, I hope to see you in the fall.

Do you guys know if Howard Dental accepts Community College credit for the Pre-req classes. I have already done all my other pre-reqs at a University but I want to also take some pre-req/recommended courses at a community college. Thanks for the info!

who in their right mind would go to Howard unless they own a bullet proof vest and a glock....

I am not sure if they mentioned this when I went for the interview, just call them and ask.

pretty dumb statement...most dental schools are in the "bad" part of town and who do you think will be your PTs when in dental school??? people from the "bad" part of town..

Does anyone know the ratio of acceptance/rejection after students have their interview??? How much they value interview?
thanks

i think the long post above and then the explanation below it reveal the answer to ratio Q. My feeling is that the interview can seal the deal for you if you blow em away. But keep in mind that most who get an interview deserve to get in anyway (and some who don't get one deserve to get in too). It is largely a matter of the applicant pool (competition) and your level of "risk". Bottom line: don't blow the interview and you'll be in the running; I believe it is a personality test of sorts.

Quite a few schools are in the downtown type area of large cities - helpful in the way of getting patients for us. So, gunner, pack the heat unless your attending one of the schools in a nice part of town:).

I faxed my DAT last 10 days ago, and called and they told me they may have it, then I called yesterday and she told me that she does not have it, what should I do, who is the head of the School, how do you guys communicate with them???

i live 30 min away, so I went over and handed my scores and as well as checked on the status of my app.... anyone in the admission should know about the status of your file. (Maybe Ms. Johnson)

do you have the numeber for that lady, i need help please!

she doesnt have a direct number, but u can call the admission 202-806-0440 and ask for her. good luck

Dun, dun, dun...and the real waiting begins. My goodness, I knew the waiting would be intense but I didn't know I would be so freaked out lol...

Hey everybody. Nobody has posted lately to this thread about howard so I just had a quick question for those still waiting on that dec. 1st acceptance and its based off of just hearing other people say that their adsas has gone blank indicating and update of some sort to come. I was going to put this out there especially for those hoping to attend Howard. Has anybody's status been changed to blank indicating a change soon? or are there some people's status that has been blank from the beginning, even when they were invited for an interview? Thanks guys and good luck!!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

I am waiting on Howard acceptance too:D i am not sure if they are going to change the aadsas status, but i heard that they inform you by sending an email on Dec 1st, as well as followed by a package of acceptance via snail mail.
Good luck everyone :luck::thumbup:

Anyone had their interview on Nov 14???

Yeah I did. Brown suit, curly hair :D

And to answer your question drdent2be, my status has been blank the whole time. I'm not sure if they update your status at all on aadsas...

oh yeah...... i remember you. I was the guys sitting at the end of the table, all the way towards the door, black suit, silver tie...... Good luck bro:thumbup:

Those numbers may be kind of sort of right. When I interviewed last year Ms. Hewitt-Clarke said that they were only interviewing 10% of the applicants. At the time of my interview (Early Nov) we were told that Howard had recieved 1800 applications. At that point only 180 prospects were going to be looked at. However, Ms. Hewitt-Clarke also said that they still were anticipating about another 1200 late applications who would be interviewed during the spring semester. Perhaps, Howard do send out 129 acceptances. However, in the end only 80 students will actually be enrolled into the entering class.

Those who interviewed pre Dec 1st got their acceptances via snail mail last year. Those who were accepted later like March and on did get emails. Even later applicants got phone calls! However, check your aadsas status around Nov 28th, 29th, and 30th. You may get a nice surprise. I know I did!

Yeah Mrs. Hewitt-Clarke told us that it would be through email on the 1st and that if we didn't hear anything we could call them on Monday. By the grace of God I will be there Fall 2009. Good luck everyone!!!:luck::xf::luck:
