I currently work in surgery. Mainly elective surgery. It’s pays well, and a lot of people make a career in the field. Due to COVID-19 my company is have to lay people off now since we have a 70% decrease in cases for at least 90 days. I’m least likely to be laid off due to my education and seniority. The thing is I have 1 waitlist spot at a DO school. My fear is that one of my co worker gets laid off then I get pulled off the waitlist causing the person to be laid off when I was already leaving if I get selected off the wait list. We do have to Option to volunteer to get laid off. My question is should I call the school and talk about the situation with them or would that be looked down upon?
No, this is an issue where that should not be used as leverage. The company needs to take into account their own personnel situation when doing layoffs and that is their problem, it is not the school's or yours.

As there is no guarantee that you'll be pulled from the wait list, you should continue working. As of right now, you're rejected until you get that accept email in your Inbox.

IF you get pulled off, then give your notice. Then company will make do.
