Found out I'm waitlisted at USUHS Jan. 31 after a Jan. 5 Interview. Just wondering if there is anything I need to be doing while waiting to hear. I got my security clearance done and went through the DODMERB physical. Should I be checking up on the physical's status and also, if I need to get a waiver, how do I go about that? (Also, are my chances good of getting in off the waitlist? I'm Air Force btw). Thanks!

Getting off the Air Force list is the most difficult (well maybe other than Public Health). If you truly want to go to USUHS then I would recommend telling them you would take whatever slot opened (unless you have prior commitments that prevent that). I interviewed Jan 9 and got off the Navy list. I don't remember needing to do anything between being notified I was on the waitlist and getting my final acceptance. Unless there are pressing issues which it doesn't appear you have (DODMERB, security) I would just sit back and wait. If you have cleared DODMERB then you shouldn't need a waiver.

How do I know the status of my physical? I wasn't told either way whether I was cleared or not. Also, how long was it til you got your final acceptance after getting on the waitlist?

I'm not sure on the physical part, it's been several years since I've had to deal with DODMERB and I try to block those interactions out of my memory. You might be able to call the school and ask, I really don't know.

I actually didn't find out about my final acceptance until around april/may timeframe. I had already accepted at another school and had actually already put a deposit down on an apartment so I remember it being later in the game.

I'd have to agree with Backrow about your chances of getting off the Air Force waitlist. I only know of one person in the class of 2009 who did. I was on the Air Force waitlist at first, but switched to Army in June and was accepted five days later. So, if you really like USUHS it might help to start thinking hooah instead of air power...

agree with what has been said about the air force waitlist, although I think my lab mate was a waitlister for the air force. I interviewed in the end of January and was originally on the AF waitlist. (Didn't know that putting the same preference on both AF and Army didn't mean squat if AF was first on the list.) I talked with the Admissions office and ended up switching to the Army waitlist. Obviously I am now a little Hooah myself
As far as the DODMERB physical, I know that there is a way to check it online. I'll see if I can look it up and get back to you. In the meantime, PM me if you have any specific questions about being waitlisted and check out my posts from last year.

I got a letter in the mail regarding the physical. Came several months after I had taken it. G'luck.

Army is cool and all (I like to PT with them a couple of times a week), but no can do with switching of the branches. I'm in Air Force ROTC and am commissioning this May. About talking to the admissions office, how helpful are they in letting you know where you stand on the waitlist and what course of action to take? Is there anyone specific I can try talking to?

If memory serves me correctly, the admissions office cannot tell you where on the list you are. Supposedly, they have an unranked list at their disposal, so the best they can do is tell you that you are on the list. It never hurts to call them, though. I had really good experiences anytime I spoke to the office.

Just spoke to Michelle. She said the waitlist for Air Force is actually still pretty short and I'm in a good position, so keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂 Hopefully I'll see some of you next year.

Put it this way, if you are on the USAF waitlist, your chances of acceptance are slim to none, and slim just left town! Your best bet is to go with the Army, with the Navy having the next highest odds.

If you want to know your status with DoDMERB go to https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/applicant/ssnsearch.asp and you can check it online. I found out I was qualified about a week before I got a letter from them, but more importantly the first few times i went on there I found out all the things I needed to submit remedials for so that the process would go quicker.

For all the naysayers, just got in off the Air Force waitlist. 🙂

CONGRATS! Getting into med school is a major accomplishment 🙂

Usually the USAF waitlist does not move much. But then again, our U.S. military is currently involved in multiple foreign wars (ie, Iraq, Afghanistan) and these conflicts don't look like they'll be ending anytime soon. I'm sure many applicants considered this and were not looking forward to being shot, being subject to IDF, or being deployed to these places full of rocks and sands...or maybe it's the idea that when you're in this horrible environment, you cannot relieve your stress by enjoying a cold beer because you're in a Muslim country (even though you're working in a forward deployed base with mostly Westerners inside it)...NO I'M NOT BITTER...I just hated the damn place! I'm counting my blessing that I came out alive. Taking all this into consideration, it's more than likely that fewer people applied to USUHS this year and/or received multiple med school acceptances and decided not to go to USUHS. Or maybe they read this SDN forum board and learned about the broken and dying system of military medicine. But in the end, this worked out in your benefit...but then again, be careful of what you wish for 😕

Good Luck :luck:

Now THIS is a a GREAT thread!!!!!! 👍

Forthose of you who were on the waitlist or are on the waitlist, when did you get your AMCAS in, when did you get your secondary and how long after that did you interview?

Congrats Nylessor!! USUHS is a fine school! I've actually looked into this option quite seriously, even having spoken with physicians who have been on both the mil and civ side of things. Perhaps they're a bit biased, but the mil still provides a good education/training. In the event that I dont' get in this year, I"ll be applying to USUHS next year. Best of luck!!

Good luck! I hope to see you there too. Also, continue doing your research. Only you can know what's good for you.

I withdrew my army acceptance today. Good luck to those of you on the waitlist.
