Hi all, I am waitlisted at 2 medical schools right now and waiting to hear back from others. I have not received a medical school acceptance as of right now. It's getting pretty late in the cycle. How does FAFSA work? Should I apply for financial aid before a medical school acceptance? Are there any advantages/disadvantages?

Also, how do you start applying for financial aid? I applied late to medical schools and am swamped, so I'm very behind. If you could go through basics/beginning, that would be great. I'm also searching through previous posts. Thanks!

You do not need to be accepted to a school to submit your FAFSA to them- all you need is the school's code.

If you get off a waitlist at one of your schools (fingers crossed!), having your FAFSA already in could really speed up how long it takes for the financial aid office to get back to your with a package. You should've at least received a handout or seen a presentation at the schools you interviewed at over financial aid. Once accepted, the financial aid office should walk you through the process.
