One doesn't need a medical condition to get out of running at COT, or at least you didn't in 1999 when I went. A good quarter of the people walked every day.
I don't think anyone has been kept out of the Air Force for ITBS (I admit I had to google it, but I bet my wife, who is an athletic trainer, could have identified it by the initials.)
A profile is used for several purposes (and I am probably missing a couple)
1) Level of deployability (Is this a word?)
2) Physical restrictions based on med condition (i.e. Pushups, Situps, Running, Ergo test, Waist measurements, etc.)
3) Tracking progression of medical conditions (ex. s/p ACL repair or other Orto procedures)
I am sure I am missing a couple, but from my understanding any doc can put you on a profile (Except yourself, obviously!)
