anyone drive this distance before? how long do you think it would take? (in september if that matters)

map websites show it's about 90 miles and 90 minute drive.

i would save about $200 if i fly to Raleigh/Durham and drive instead of flying into Greensboro.

only problem is that my flight out would be at 5:25pm and interview is supposedly over at 3-3:30pm

anyone who interviewed there have comments on when day ends? because interview and tour go from 1-3pm. so if you interview early do you sit and wait for everyone to finish before tour?

I drove. Just dont let those enterprise dinguses rip you off. like they did to me. /vent

oh yeah, people ducked out early if I remember correctly. Just call ahead and tell them you have time constraints and they'll probably try to work it for you.

LOL, not on your best day will you make it in 90 mins. Assuming you've never even been in Raleigh/Winston-Salem. I'd really go for 2hrs. I went from Greensboro to Winston everyday in HS and it took ~30 mins (my hs was next to wake). It takes me with 0 traffic, one hour from Greensboro to Durham.

Maybe... just maybe you could get from Durham to Winston in 90 mins, but I doubt it, but you're going from Raleigh wich is another ~30 mins away....

BTW, i drive ~73-78mph in a 65.

yeah, i ask here first instead of calling, because i'm afraid that i will appear uninterested or unenthusiastic by talking about leaving early or as soon as possible. and from what i've read they really take note of applicants who show enthusiasm for their school.

and what happened with enterprise? what should/shouldn't i do when renting car?

I'm from Raleigh. It takes about 2 hours to get from Raleigh to Winston-Salem, if it's not rush hour or anything. I-40 around Raleigh and especially Durham is ridiculous anywhere from 4 PM to 7 PM, so give yourself an extra hour of driving depending on what time you come in. Otherwise, it's pretty much a straight shot from the RDU airport to the Wake Forest med school.

The stretch of I-40 b/t Burlington and Greensboro is pretty bad...there's always some type of road construction.

i didn't even realize i could fly into raleigh/durham... damn.. i'm flying into greensboro..and how are ya'll renting cars, am i correct in assuming that you're under 25?

P.S. when are you interview dates?

I had a 6pm class in Durham the night of my Wake Forest interview, and I seem to recall wearing my suit to class b/c I didn't have time to go home and change. As many others have pointed out, there is almost no way you will make a 5:25 flight in RDU if you leave Winston-Salem at 3:30. They are pretty nice at WFU, so if you explain that the only flight you can get is at 5:25, they will probably work with you. :luck:

thanks for everyone's help

so in everyone's opinion, what time would i need to leave from wake to make the 5:25 flight?

2hour drive, 30 minute car and airport check-in, so if i left at 2:30 would i be safe?

You should be able to leave WF by 2:15 on your interview day. If they haven't changed their interview format from last year, the morning is speeches and information and stuff. Then lunch for an hour or so around 12. Then at 1, you break into two groups of 3, one group tours while the other interviews (3 fifteen minute interviews) which takes an hour. So if you tell them you have to leave, they should put you in the first interviewing group so you can skip the tour and leave by 2:15 (As I recall, patient/visitor parking is a bit of a walk from the admissions office, and that part of WF is full of long hallways and turns and it's confusing if you've new there, at least to me).

any clue how one can get to the school if you can't drive?

if you want you can request to have your interviews at 1 and you will be done at 2. You can get a quick tour and be out of there at about 2:30 ! Good luck ! :luck:

I took a cab from greensboro. cost me 40$ though

I rented a car in Greensboro. Extra $25 to be an underage driver, but still about the same as a shuttle/cab would have cost. National will rent to under 25's with the surcharge, don't know about other car rental agencies.

is there a shuttle from the greensboro airport to wake forest? i can't find any info on the website.

Hi everyone,

I'm actually really glad that I found this post because I just found out that I have an interview at Wake Forest (I didn't know that the only way you find out is if you call them directly!), and I have no idea which airport I'm supposed to go into NC. From this post, it seems like there are two aiports, one in Greensboro and another one in Raleigh? And you would need to drive another 30 min or so from Greensboro?

Wow, this is so confusing, haha

If anyone could reply back to me, I would REALLY appreciate it guys~!

Being from raleigh, having worked in winston salem, and lived in greensboro, here's a summary for all you guys from my extensive experience:

3 Choices:

Distance from RDU (Raleigh/Durham International) to Wake: About 2 hours, longer in rush hour.

Distance from Greensboro Triad Regional Airport to Wake: maybe a half hour

Distance From Charlotte to Wake: At least 3 hours (not worth it)

Try to get into Greensboro if possible, but its a small regional airport so flights may be expensive. Raleigh may be your best bet. Directions are very easy from any of the airports, simply take I-40 (and I-85 if from Charlotte).

Mapquest shows distance to be 79 miles.....how can it take 3 hours ???? I have travelled extensivelt b/w raleigh, greensboro, and Charlotte (not to winston-salem though...) but the drive from Charlotte to Wake is about 90-100 minutes ..... and flights to charlotte are mostly cheaper......Charlotte being a bigger airport ....... I might be wrong but just a thought

Charlotte is a ridiculously expensive airport. They rape the local businessmen because they can afford it. Greensboro on any flight I've checked is ridiculously cheaper. However, if for some reason you do want to fly into Charlotte, give yourself about 2.5 hours just to be safe. Construction is hideous (even compared to whats in Greensboro) so driving time can be incredibly variable.

It could take me 1.5 hours to get to winston-salem if you made it quick.
