Hello everyone, I would greatly appreciate any and all opinions, plus anything about these schools I may miss in my pros and cons section. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have such great choices and am currently on some waitlists so we shall see….I am unsure what specialty I want to go into, but would like to keep as many doors open as I can for as long as I can (would like to get some research pubs while in med school). I was in and out for interview days so I have never really even seen either of these two cities either.
What I value:
-family
-my GF
-working out/good gyms.
-Great nature and areas to explore and walk
-becoming the best physician/person I can
-supportive culture / non-cut throat environment
-prefer medium-sized city/ suburb feel
Wake Forest (60,000/ yr)
Pros:
-Small class size (140)
-Warm weather!
-Matches well
-New place to explore (lived in midwest my whole life)
-Love the outdoors and seems like there's a lot to explore here.
-easy 6 hour drive home to parents/family
-seems more reputable and people around the country know this school (pretty close to MCW in rankings though???)
Cons:
-know close to nothing about living in Winston-Salem/ North Carolina
-Starts July 6th, with CTE of June 15th (still on a waitlist at my number one school, kinda trying to hold out hope there)
-slightly more expensive overall
Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) (~55,000/ yr)
Pros:
- Everyone says Milwaukee is a great city with lots to do, and very family-oriented.
- Matches well
- BIG hospitals/system right next to school.
- Everyone seemed very genuine when interviewing/good feeling overall
-virtual second look was very reassuring
- moderate cost of living
- scholarly concentrations seem really cool to choose.
Cons:
-Weather (very cold, very snowy, but hey I am from midwest).
-Big student population (200 in each year), tired of feeling like a number at my undergrad.
-7 hour drive from home/family
