Nice payday for the DEA. Business is good.

Too bad they effed up. Would've been nice if they instead paid that $80 million in bonus checks to employees... Oh wait.

$320 bonus per person..

80 mil onry?? A drop in a bucket for a company with a revenue of 70 billion/year.

In their action against Walgreen, federal officials said the chain had failed to properly account for the sales of painkillers or report suspicious sales. The Walgreen distribution facility in Florida once served as the largest supplier of prescription painkillers to pharmacies in that state, they said.

I understand not properly documenting dispensing narcs, but suspicious sales?

I just think it's wrong to focus on the pharmacy dispensing and not on the people prescribing and enabling the abuse. Walgreen's should pay, but the DEA shouldn't be so hawkish and have pharmacist's fined for being bad detectives filling (technically) legal prescriptions.

They are focusing on those prescribing. To call these pharmacists bad detectives is an understatement. I've seen the numbers of oxycodone they were dispensing. They were either grossly negligent or participants in the scam. They are lucky if they are still practicing.

yeah, it's a slap on the wrist. $80 mil for walgreens? It's more of a demonstration of awareness than bite power. But the purpose of a warning shots isn't to kill than to make them do what you want.
