Hi! I plan on applying next cycle and would appreciate any thoughts. I’m Canadian & plan on applying primarily USDO and also any USMD where I can be a competitive applicant. I was semi-satisfied with my MCAT except for Chem/Phys. Also, I was thinking if my app is not strong enough, I could wait an apply in 2024 instead.
Demographic: Canadian South Asian Male
GPA: 3.66 (upward trend)
sGPA: 3.61
Major: Physics
MCAT: 508 (123/129/127/129)
Clinical Volunteer Work: ~ 150 hours at local hospital in emergency and day surgery
Shadowing:
• 20 hours of shadowing MD at highly prestigious Canadian hospital + LOR
Research:
• 50+ hours volunteering in physics solar energy lab
• NSERC for engineering project, co-author w/ published paper in IEEE
• paid environmental science summer research position
• physics thesis research project (not sure if this is worth including)
Other:
• teaching assistant for various physics courses (200+ hours)
• physics society VP, A.I. club VP
• local youth council member dealing with issues facing our municipality
~ 100 hours volunteering at elderly care home
• multiple Dean’s/President’s List
• ~ 5 scholarships for high grades
I am planning on applying to all Canadian friendly DO schools: Midwestern (Chicago + Arizona), Kansas City, Lake Erie, Lincoln Memorial, Marian, Michigan State, PCOM, Nova, Rowan, Touro, UNECOM, Western, & William Carey.... I think my numbers are decent for these... but please be honest, how good of a shot do I have for these? Also might apply to lower-tier MD schools but not holding out hope.
