Hi all!
Here's some background on me: Graduated from a big state school with a degree in Biology with "inconsistent" grades
, applied (and late) when I had no business applying despite the MCAT score. Realized my gpa was obviously holding me back and decided to do an SMP. Completed the Cinci SMP and applying this cycle.
Stats:
3.01 ug cgpa
2.87 ug sgpa
3.72 SMP gpa
517 MCAT
ECs
Research: 1550+ hours thyroid cancer, 1 publication (not 1st author), 300 hours Art History (with professor, independent study)
Paid Clinical: 250 hours as Dietary Aide at long-term care and rehab center
Paid Nonclinical: 600 hours, worked at university gym, promoted several times
Clinical Volunteering: 50 hours, hospital volunteer
Nonclinical Volunteering: 325 hours, mostly food pantry, community outreach
Shadowing: 41 hours, various specialties
Leadership: committee leader in student service org
No immediate family members in medicine, ORM.
I don't have any excuses for my performance in undergrad, I think it was a maturity/motivation thing. I grew a lot during the SMP and tried to reflect that in my Personal Statement this time around. I was able to volunteer a little during the SMP but planned to shadow after, obviously cancelled due to COVID-19.
