Hello, I'm working on developing my school list and would love any inputs. I'm also trying to decide if I should push my application to next year, or if I should consider the SMP route.
I'm a service academy graduate (BS History) who spent 6 yrs on active duty before doing an informal post-bacc.
1) cGPA: 3.33, sGPA: 3.22. Post-bacc sGPA is 3.75, undergrad sGPA <3.0, undergrad cGPA ~3.15. Strong upward trend.
2) MCAT 514; C/P 127, CARS 132, B/B 129, P/S 126
3) Non-clinical volunteering: After school tutor to previously homeless kid who was a grade behind in school. Twice a week for one year, at ~150 hours
4) No clinical volunteering, although I will have ~40 hours by August
5) Shadowing: ~ 55 hours
6) No research experience
7) Job interviews next week for various scribe positions/medical office assistant.
8) GA resident, not URM

Tentative school list:
Mercer
Medical College of Georgia
Morehouse
Michigan State
Loyola
FL International
George Washington
Georgetown
MUSC
Joan C Edwards at Marshall U
U Kansas
Albany
Central Michigan
Drexel
Creighton
Quinnipac
Cooper
Toledo
Illinois
New York Medical College
EVMS
Emory

GA-PCOM
VCOM (both campuses)
NSU-COM
ATSU-SOMA
BCOM

You should be fine for DO school with your stats. Your GPA is low as a OOS applicant for state public schools such as Illinois, Toledo, Central Michigan, Kansas, Michigan State, Marshall and Cooper. You could add schools such as:
Penn State
Temple
Jefferson
Virginia Commonwealth
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
Tulane

Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely make that adjustment. How many DO schools would you recommend applying to?

While you are light on clinical exp, there are many MD schools that will give consideration to someone with 6 yrs of active duty exp a good grade trend and 514

I don't know how you feel about heading back into the military but you are within range for USU if you wanted to jump back in.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but whats the reasoning behind the duke/case addition here @Goro ?

I have a similar app to OP and similar numbers so def want to know if I should add these 2 to my own list.

Thank you for the input! I really appreciate the guidance. And yes, I did need a "double-take" read to hear you. :)

Definitely do not need to retake the MCAT. I'd follow Goro's advice and get a copy of the MSAR. Then, I'd focus my apps on schools that accept the highest rate of military veterans.

Wow-o on the CARS score, by the way. I think it's the most important score. *High five*

There is no reason, goro throws schools in randomly
