Demographics:
-OH resident, Asian American, high SES, lost mother to cancer when I was 8.
Academics:
BS in Aerospace Engineering
3.53 GPA 3.33 SGPA. Tanked my GPA with double 3.00s my junior year but never fell below 3.7 after that.
MCAT: 515
Red flags:
Disciplinary probation for trespassing onto a roof and inviting a group up with me. Talked about how it put the value of my education into perspective and being conscientious of my actions and the consequences towards myself and others.
Low SGPA/ bad junior year - Talked about how I had to take care of my little sister when I was younger. After leaving ROTC my junior year I spread myself too thin trying to find my place and my people as I caught up socially, but I learned a lot, matured, and grew as a student and person even after making some wrong turns.
Extra curriculars:
ROTC for 2 years: 2000 hours - Always knew I wanted to a life of service, but left to pursue medicine. Large amounts of service, leadership, and teamwork.
Scribing: 500 hours, 1000 more expected - scribed for a gastroenterologist and ENT. My mother had gastric cancer which was the main reason for wanting to learn more about gastroenterology specifically.
Shadowing: 70 hours - Neurosurgery, family medicine, anesthesia, general surgery
Research lab: 1500+ hours - 1 poster presentation in biomedical engineering and was a bridge between my major and medicine. Research was slow due to supply shortages.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentor program: 200 hours, 200 more expected - minimum 1.5 yr commitment to a 7 year old who lives with his mother. Wanted to mentor someone who was in a similar situation as I was.
Campus gym assistant: 500+ hours - Helped deal with medical emergencies rarely
Food pantry assistance club: 50 hours
Aerospace honor society officer: 200+ hours - leadership experience as well as tutoring.
Yoga: 600+ hours - Healing through injury and stress management
School list. No preference outside top 8 (OH resident):
