Hi all, gearing up for a third, and hopefully final attempt at admission. My application is geared toward psychiatry and bioethics. I'm fairly certain I want to work with pediatric patients, and try to tie this into narratives in the essays. Will try to get as many volunteer hours as possible before the end of May. I had 1 interview in 2023-24 and none in 2024-25.

Let me know how to improve in the few months before applications go in, what schools I'm missing, or which ones I shouldn't bother applying to. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Your lack of non clinical volunteering will limit your chances for interviews.

I do not have any significance working in a shelter, but that is a great suggestion and I will begin looking for that! ...
I interviewed at MCW's regional campus that shares a campus with my undergrad (St. Norbert). The feedback I got was to get experience outside of behavioral health, and to define why MD, as opposed to psych PhD or some other role.
You added 100 hours at Ronald McDonald House. You have been under 150 hours for 2 cycles.

You added 100 hours as a volunteer soccer coach.

You added 150 hours as a youth mentor/coach to underserved Milwaukee students.

You got zero interviews, including the in-state program that interviewed you previously. What happened?

Thanks for the response.

I did get 0 interviews. I can't exactly speak to why I did not receive an interview at the program I previously interviewed. I assume it was an error in my writing/angle/portrayal of what I've done. I have a meeting with their admissions office later this month. I think I lacked focus in regards to why medicine, and what impact I can have as a physician, but I'm not sure.

Yes, I did add less volunteer hours than I had hoped, only about 10 hours a week. I did also add 100 clinical volunteering hours. I will accumulate another ~25-50 hours in each of the roles I am in now prior to submitting apps. I work Mon-Sat during the day, and volunteer Mon-Thurs nights. But yes, I should have done more on weekends, but attempted to spend those shadowing. Not trying to make excuses.

Thanks again for the time.
