Hi all, I'm hoping to get some feedback on my school list. I've only submitted to my states schools so far and would like to add more, but not sure how high to aim.

1. 3.71 cGPA and 3.73 sGPA (4.0 in last 36 credit hours, all prereqs, done as DIY post bacc)
Physics major, math minor

2. MCAT 523 (132/129/131/131)

3. IL Resident

4. ORM

5.Small private liberal arts college

6. 50 hours home hospice volunteer, 120 hours patient-facing hospital volunteering, 900 hours scribing in an ED

7. 6000 hours of research/development of a novel shock absorber for railcars. Extensive lab work with full-time employment (see item #10). No pubs and I started after the patent was filed, but I can talk at length about the product and experimentation to bring it to market.

8. 30 hours shadowing; hospitalist, ER doc, pulmonologist, and an NP and PA

9. 500 hours volunteering at food bank in supervisor role

10. 9 years full-time employment in railroad R&D, doing data analysis and writing software for a mechanical testing lab.
Non-thesis MS in computer science (4.0 gradGPA). Led a software development project and wrote a research review as capstone projects.

Employed throughout undergrad as an IT technician (dad’s small business) and as a carwash attendant.

Hobby of car repair.

Rock band artistic endeavor.

11. No honors/awards.

12. 31M, non-trad, first-gen college graduate. Personal statement leans into integrating computing background with medicine. Looking to attend a school that will offer good research opportunities.

UVM and Dartmouth are nontrad-friendly.

You could add any of those OOS schools and also consider UMass, Iowa, Colorado,USF Morsani, Dartmouth, Hofstra and Einstein (free tuition).

While I know you should apply for in-state preferences, Rosalind Franklin will yield-protect you, and I don't feel there's a great fit compared to the other Chicago schools with co-appointed engineering and comp sci faculty. I feel the same with EVMS and Arizona-Phoenix.

I'm not focusing so much with the non-trad side, but you are missing UMich, perhaps Mich State (though not sure how much of a fit that is). They're in the neighborhood. You have Mayo, but UMinnesota also could be possible depending on their OOS trends. I also consider Iowa strong with engineering.

Let's add Columbia to the list. @Goro @LizzyM are there any other schools that like nontrads/reinventors that have turned themselves into top 20 pack fodder?
I suggest:
UCSF
NYMC
Wayne State
SIU if you're from the southern part of the state
Duke
Pitt
Mt Sinai
Emory

Gtown

Loyola
Rush
