  1. Pre-Medical
Hello, all. Plan on applying in the 2025-2026 cycle. Want to make sure I don't have any major weaknesses in my app before it is too late. All hours will reflect what I should have when I submit primaries.

1. cGPA: 3.98, sGPA: 3.96
2. 517 (129/128/130/130) on 1 attempt
3. IL resident
4. Caucasian
5. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
6. 2000+ hrs as an ER Tech over 2 years
7. 1000+ hrs in a basic science cancer research lab with at least 2 mid-author pubs (2.5 years)
8. 30 hrs shadowing in EM and IR (looking for more opportunities here)
9. 75 hrs as a hospital volunteer, ~200 hrs as a youth sports coach
10. Run marathons but not a collegiate athlete. On the executive board for student-run consulting firm. Currently a preceptor for new techs in the ED. Worked as a lifeguard for a summer.
11. Have received awards at work via patient nomination but nothing major here.

Any major gaps? Any chance at top 20? I imagine all of those schools are a bit of a long shot.

Thanks for any input.

Read some SDN articles. We have plenty.

Your pre-professional competencies seem lower than desirable, especially service orientation activities (food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation). What you have seems to be just youth sports coaching, which doesn't resonate with many adcoms in fulfilling this competency (in a non-clinical setting).

Clinical experience as described also doesn't seem to be much. What is the context of being an ER tech? 2000 hours over 2 years is a lot, so how did you balance that with classes?

I also don't get much of a feel for your impact with your campus community, nor do I have a sense of your purpose as a physician.
