New to the Amcas system and would appreciate any advice on my current draft of schools.

cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS: 3.6
MCAT score(s) and breakdown: 508 (126/124/129/129)
State of residence or country of citizenship: US Citizen, resident of District of Columbia
Ethnicity and/or race: caucasian (dk if relevant but not born in USA)
Undergraduate institution or category: Canadian
Graduate School: USA, in progress

Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)

  • Estimated 70 hours by June as hospital volunteer working in helping patients upon arrival and distributing toys patients in paediatrics (continuing up to 2024)
  • Beginning January, working as a scribe and MA. (Estimated 500 hours by June, to be continued until 2024 (I wanted to start earlier but I recently moved, and most interviews ended with them not wanting to hire due to me having grad school classes 2x a week :/ )

Research experience and productivity
  • 800 hours summer research intern over 2 years, 1 abstract written
  • 300 hours year long clinical research -> 1 publication, 1 presentation
Shadowing experience and specialties represented:
  • 40 hours (pediatrics, anaesthesiology, reconstructive surgery, critical care)
Non-clinical volunteering:
  • Summer English tutor to refugees (100 hours),
  • 30 hours Food assistance centre to distribute food to underserved families (ongoing, I usually go 2-3 times a month)
  • 65 hours volunteering with children with disabilities to spend time with them

Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)-
  • Varsity sports team in the first year of university (500 hours)
  • 16 years as a competitive athlete
  • Sports coach 130 hours (got stopped due to covid after 4 months)
  • Gap year (in grad school right now)

Relevant honors or awards
  • Honour roll in uni
  • Grad school scholarship (not sure if these are worth mentioning)

  • Im aware my mcat and grades aren’t great, so want to make a school list that is realistic and gives me my best shot with a few reaches that i know are unrealistic but I just wanna go for it
  • Looking to add a few more schools, and open to removing any that have a super high in-state bias

You have several state public schools on your list that admit very few non residents with a MCAT of 508 and no connection to the state.
I suggest these schools from your list:
  • George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science
  • Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine
  • Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
  • Northeast Ohio Medical University (previous residence, strong ties to state)
  • The University of Toledo College of Medicine

  • Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University
  • Drexel University College of Medicine
  • Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine
  • Wayne State University School of Medicine
  • Eastern Virginia Medical School
  • University of Vermont College of Medicine
  • Albany Medical College
  • Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine
  • Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science
You could add these schools:
Virginia Commonwealth
Wake Forest
NOVA MD
TCU-UNT

Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Also apply to DO schools and I suggest these:
