Hi all,

This is my first SDN post. I got AMCAS verified on 7/15 and have secondaries from most of these schools, but I'm also wondering what to add, and what to withdraw from, if needed. I tried to do my best research, but I want this cycle to be successful, so any critique is helpful to me!

What are my projected chances at these schools for this cycle with my stats and ECs? Thanks in advance!

cGPA: 3.82

sGPA: 3.76

MCAT: 505 (126, 126, 127, 126) -> 510 (128, 127, 127, 128)

State of residence: IL

Ethnicity and/or race: ORM

Undergraduate institution: Large public school in IL, applying as trad applicant

Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer):
- ED Healthcare technician (~2100 hours by graduation), super proud of this and I've learned a lot

Research experience:
- ~870 in one lab in chemistry by graduation, no publications

Shadowing experience and specialties represented:
- Rural primary care in the clinic (40 hours)

Non-clinical volunteering:
- ~300 hours by graduation for the Crisis Text Line
- ~40 hours in a free clinic pre-COVID, but they went telehealth during COVID, and were later kicked out of their lease so that was for only about two months

Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc):
- None

Relevant honors or awards:
- Deans List for two semesters, LAS Honors Program

Anything else not listed you think might be important: My application is mostly about listening and understanding other people's needs, and helping them based on what they need.

School list:

AMCAS (verified 7/15), I'm happy to add more, or withdraw if I didn't research the schools well. 26 MD in total atm.

Carle has an engineering focus, so ensure you have a background in that before continuing.

SIU really only accepts in-state students from south of I-80 and/or a rural area.

For the rest of your MD list, there are some that take few OOS students without ties. I suggest:

Creighton University
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Penn State
Nova MD
Temple
Drexel
University of Illinois
Rush
Medical College of Wisconsin
Albany Medical College
Oakland
Tulane
Wake
Quinnipiac
Vermont
NYMC
Hackensack
Wayne State

For DO, Sam Houston takes very few OOS students as it is a TMDAS school. I suggest adding:

DMU
Marian
KCU
PCOM
KCOM
Campbell
NYITCOM
UIWSOM (if you wanted to be in Texas)

Thank you for your response! I can add Hackensack and Vermont, but I'm concerned that my MCAT isn't high enough for NYMC because they're 10th percentile is a 509. You are right about Sam Houston, I will remove it. How many DO would you suggest if I already have 26-28 ish MD? Do you think I have a reasonable chance of getting into an MD?

Thanks for the response! For the MD schoosl, I can add each one you suggested, but I am conserned about NYMC because they're 10th percentile is a 509, includes my 510, but I might be too low. What do you think? Also for Quinnipiac, they didn't accept anyone from Illinois, should I still apply there? Just realized that Wake is the same.

Apply to both of those schools. You have a high GPA and extensive clinical hours. It is not just the MCAT that matters.

As Faha said, I think you should try it as you have other parts of your application that can interest them. You have a reasonable chance at MD, but having a few more DO schools would be a good idea.

I see. Thank you for all of your suggestions, I've removed the OOS schools I have a low chance in and added all of your suggestions.
