Hi all! I'm trying to finalize my school list, I'm not looking to apply to much more than 20 bc $$. My personal statement is centered on running and nutrition and bringing my skills from that into medicine. I don't love some of my in-state schools but I've been hearing that I should still apply to them all for the in-state advantage. If anyone has any advice or thoughts on which schools to cut out/add please let me know!
  • State/Country of Residence: Cleveland, Ohio
  • Year in School: rising senior (class of 2021) at Case Western
  • Undergraduate Major(s)/Minor(s): Major- Nutritional Biochemistry & Metabolism; Minors: Chemistry and Medical Anthropology
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.95 sGPA: 3.9?
  • MCAT Score(s): 517 (127, 128, 130, 132)
  • Research Experience: In my primary app, none; I just started in a chemistry research lab the past few weeks, I'm learning techniques currently and will be working on actual projects going into the school year. I'm going to try and include some mention of this in my secondaries but I obviously don't have much to report on so far.
  • Clinical Experience (paid or volunteer):
-400 hours medical scribe in an express care setting(county hospital, urban population); made sure to mention the shadowing aspect in my app (8-12 hrs/week)
-75 hours volunteering in Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital (4-8 hrs/week)
  • Non-Clinical Volunteering:
- Volunteering in nursing home throughout semester (25 hours)
-Organizing local elementary school garden, weekly volunteering (40 hours)
  • Other Extracurricular Activities:
-Varsity XC and track runner the past 3 years of college (~1000+ hrs per school year, 25+ hrs/week)
-Co-president of Slow Food (org about food production, diversity, sustainability) 2 years (~350 hours)
- Camp Kesem volunteer(organizing a summer camp for kids whose parents have had cancer, volunteering as a counselor) (130 hrs); i put it as an extracurricular on AMCAS but it's volunteer based
- Climbing club (indoor/outdoor rock climbing) (45 hrs)
- Delta Gamma sorority (400 hrs); on philanthropy committee
Other Employment:
-Admin at a financial advising company (4 years, 200 hrs)
- Cashier at park concession stand (2 summers; 300 hrs)

UPenn and NYU are not a good use of $ imo. What about schools like BU, UVM, Temple + Jefferson?

West Virginia
Boston University
Tufts
