Hi, I would love some thoughts on my school list. I’m a 1st time applicant.


NC resident, ORM, Asian (Indian), woman

cGPA: 3.80

MCAT: 520 (Aug 2023 131/129/132/128)

Undergrad at large public school. Freshman year during Covid. Taking 1 gap year.

240 hours CNA
  • Anticipating 240 hours more during gap year
1000+ hours wet lab research
  • 1 poster presentation, 1 oral presentation (1st runner-up in competition)
400 hours clinical research
  • 2 poster presentations, 2 publications under review
  • Anticipating 1000 more hours during gap year
95 hours shadowing across 5 specialties (derm, peds, adult med, gastrointerology, endocrinology)

15 hours non-clinical volunteering (1 summer mentoring URM in genetics research)

Anticipated 300 hours clinical volunteering in gap year

2 semesters of anatomy lab TA (70 hours)

Created a position for head learning assistant in undergraduate anatomy labs.

Leadership as DEI chair in a pre-medical fraternity (3 semesters).

Baking business as hobby.

15 hours non-clinical volunteering
It would help knowing the details. Why so few hours? For most schools, you need 150 hours of service orientation activities (non-clinical) to avoid your application getting screened out.

What activities involved advocacy for marginalized groups?
