I'm kind of daunted by the high percentage of matriculants at even low tier schools who have research experience (85-95%). I'm an asian male with about as median of an application as you could have.
GPA: s3.60/c3.67
MCAT: 510
Clinical Exp: 2000+ hrs ER scribe, 200+ hrs free health clinic volunteer
Non-clinical: 300+ hrs church praise band leader, 100+hrs preparing/serving food at church.
Leadership: Christian pre-health student organization founder/president.
Other EC: Club fencer who did well at midwest championships
Hobbies: guitar.
Shadowing: 50+ hrs total (ED and family med)
I'm trying to paint myself as a clinically-focused med school applicant. It's not that I don't like research, it's just that I needed to support myself financially throughout college and it was hard for me to extend myself beyond the commitments I already had.
My tentative school list so far:
Target -
UIC, Rosy Franklin (2x legacy), Rush, Loyola, SIU, NYMC, Albany, Netter, MCW
Maybe? -
Loma Linda, Central Michigan, Rowan, Creighton, Eastern Virginia, Geisel, Hofstra, Penn State, Rutgers(RWJ), SUNY Downstate, Toledo, Colorado, Rochester, Virginia Commonwealth, Wayne, Wake Forest, WMU Homer Stryker, Wright State.
Low-yield -
Drexel, George Washington, Georgetown, Temple, Sidney Kimmel, Tufts, Tulane.
I appreciate all help with any evaluation of my school list. It's hard to determine which schools are "research-heavy" institutions just based on their mission focuses.
