Hello all,

New to the forum. Wanted to get some advice on schools. AACOMAS sGPA: 3.6

ID resident

Clinical experience: 1500 hours (and counting) as nurse/MA at a private practice

Shadowing: 150 hours between multiple specialties.

Volunteer experience: roughly 200 hours consisting of church volunteering, missions trip, and free medical clinic work. Part of the team that helped start the free clinic

Research: roughly 7 months of lab research with a co-2nd author publication in a low impact journal

LOR: Strong letter from the doctor that I work for, strong letter biochem and ochem professor. Potential LOR from one of the directors of WWAMI program.

You are competitive for all DO schools. For MD consider adding schools such as:
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
Tulane
Oakland Beaumont
Vermont
Quinnipiac
NYMC
Drexel
Temple

Thanks for the help! My "state" school UW is really my top choice. Do you think I'm most competitive for that school along with any DO school?

Yes, UW is where your best chance is for MD school.

As someone who is not from WWAMI, but has been to Washington >5 times and has family there... I am extremely jealous. I think you'll be fine as long as you apply wisely (early and broadly). Good luck!

@begood95 thanks for the advice! I'm really hoping for the best with UW. 40 seats for Idaho residents seems like somewhat good odds.

Quick question about a potential LOR. The physician that I worked with while volunteering at the free medical clinic is the associate director of the Idaho campus for WWAMI. Would he be able to write me a letter based on the work that I do at the free clinic? Or would this not be appropriate?
