Is your program part of the UC Postbac Consortium? Are you part of any mentoring organizations for Latino future physicians?
I'm doing my postbacc with the Pre-Professional Health Academic Program (PHAP) at CSU East Bay. No mentoring organizations for Latino future physicians, but that would be great to get involved with something like that. Thanks, I will look into it!

Where did you apply last time? Did you receive any interviews?

What is new that wasn't on your application before? Is it the EMT experience and post-bacc?

I'm fairly sure every UC school will have something. Check out the videos from MiMentor on YouTube.

Are you fluent in Spanish ?
I am not yet fluent, but I have been working towards it. I was able to communicate with most of my Spanish-speaking patients as an EMT, but I often struggled with medical terminology translations. I'm currently learning medical Spanish in one of my extracurriculars. Also actively searching for schools with medical Spanish opportunities like UCR so that I can continue to learn and get better through medical school.

I applied to many of the same high-reach schools in my last cycle with no success after secondary apps. Placed on hold by UCR after secondary but never made it to an interview. I tried to tailor my MD list more towards which schools I have a better chance with from my LizzyM score, and schools that have accepted a fair amount of students from my postbacc program.

I applied to more DO schools, but since many are picky about requiring physician letters of evaluation, I have decided to apply to programs where I know I've met the application prerequisites. I've gotten to interact and observe a lot of physicians doing critical care transport, but I have yet to find an in-person shadowing opportunity. I have called dozens of physicians and have not had any luck yet.

Since my last application:
-added more clinical hours as an EMT, received an EMT award, became a field training officer and trained 4 new EMTs
-became a peer tutor for the post-bacc
-joined medical Spanish club
-started non-clinical volunteering at community garden

-not stated in original post, but I've also been communicating with several medical students and running my new personal statement drafts by them trying to get more criticisms that are less biased (last app I had mostly friends and family review my writing. Trying to look for feedback from people who don't know me that well).

I took a bit of a break from EMT to really prioritize demonstrating academic excellence in post-bacc, but I am currently applying for scribing/research jobs and continuing to search for shadowing opportunities as my semester comes to an end.
