I am surprised you received an interview at SUNY Upstate. Do you have any connection to that region of New York ? Generally, OOS MD schools (especially state public schools) interview few Texas applicants since they know from years of experience that Texas applicants will attend a Texas school. For AMCAS schools you could try TCU and Tulane. @wysdoc your opinion ?

If you are interested in primary care and rural health, take a close look at the schools on your list for their rural health tracks. I don't know if your application shows this as your purpose, but make sure this is what you really want to do. You have done a lot with public health so keep an eye on location where you want to continue your studies.

Where have you added hours since your previous application? Have you done more non-clinical community service?

I have seen Texans get interviews/acceptances at a few OOS schools in the past few years including UCF, USF, Kentucky, Drexel, Vanderbilt, George Washington, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, SLU, VCU, Virginia Tech, Creighton, MCW, Cincinnati, Vermont.
Not much interest in Texans in California or the Northeast unless they're those superstars that seem to get offers wherever they go.

If you haven't submitted AMCAS yet remove Sanford, U Minnesota, U Connecticut, U Mass, and Morehouse.

I wish you better luck in Texas this year, OP. If you submitted kind of late last year, try to submit by the end of June this time around.

I actually didn't get an interview, it went straight to waitlist. So maybe it was more of a pre II rejection or something idk

I didn't mention what I had done before, but I got a lot more experience in everything from my gap year. About 1800 hours in clinical, 100 hours community engagement, 2 poster presentations, more leadership.

Thanks for the suggestions! If I could ask, why did you recommend removing those schools specifically?

Sanford takes mostly in-state or from the upper midwest, as does Minnesota. If you like Minnesota for some reason they have taken some Texans.
Morehouse is mostly Black students & I didn't see that you had listed your ethnicity
U Conn takes mostly from the eastern seaboard (see the US maps on the MSAR site)
U Mass: is it worth OOS tuition over going to a Texas school?

I realized recently that my mcat is expired for a lot of schools, so I had to change it a lot. My current school list is:

MD: Charles R Drew, Cooper, Emory, Hackensack, Meharry, Nova Southwestern, Oakland, St Louis, Tucson, Tufts, Tulane, UMass, Univ of Minnesota, Univ of Wisconsin, Virginia Common, Wake Forest, Wayne,

DO: Michigan State, VCOM, AZCOM, PCOM, UIWCOM

What do you think of this new list?

Charles R Drew and Meharry are also HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges and Universities)
Instead of UMass, apply to U Vermont, they are OOS friendly

MCAT scores are good for 5 years in the TMDSAS schools.

Don't apply to Sanford (South Dakota) unless you meet these qualifications, otherwise you most likely won't even receive a secondary:
