Just got my MCAT score back a few days ago and I'm looking forward to making a school list! Here is the rundown:

  • White
  • OH resident and OH undergrad
  • cGPA: 3.86
  • sGPA: 3.79
  • MCAT: 520 (131/129/129/131)
My bigger ECs and things of note:
  • Resident Advisor for a few years
  • Research: been in a lab for a year (will be 2 years at time of application), might get a publication at the end of this year, hopefully a poster at the least
  • Pretty involved in a student org since freshman year, minor leadership position
  • Volunteering at my university's hospital and the hospital in my hometown (around 350 hours combined)
  • Volunteer coaching in summer (~200 hours)
  • sufficient shadowing (100+ hours, various disciplines)

School list:
  • All Ohio schools (I think there's 6 MD schools)
  • Pitt
  • Indiana University
  • Michigan
  • Oakland (MI)
  • UWisconsin
  • Penn State
  • Geisel @ Dartmouth
  • Keck @ USC
  • UNC
  • Yale
past that I could really use some help.. can I just pick schools off of the USNWR top 30? I'm not sure which ones have heavy regional biases or things like that (ex. are the CA schools worth the applications since I'm from Ohio?)

And I know my stats are great, but would I really have a shot at those places? Until I got that MCAT score, my plan was to stay in Ohio at one of the lower-tier MDs or our DO school (Ohio University)... now it seems I have a lot more options.

As long as you apply to all of your Ohio schools you can add any OOS schools that appeal to you including those in CA. When are you planning to apply?

Hoping to submit on the first day of next year's cycle!

Thank you so much! This list will be really helpful. I'm not familiar with some of those private schools (Einstein, Hofstra, Sinai) but I will start looking into them.

They're great options if you're open to living in NY.
