"PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS MESSAGE"

Hi! I would really appreciate some feedback on some schools to apply to given the following information. I’ve included as many details as possible, but happy to clarify further. Thank you all so much in advance.

1. cGPA: 3.96; sGPA: 3.93
2. MCAT: 518 total (130/126/130/132) after a retake (516 original. I know some would suggest not retaking this score. I dropped a point on CARS, but increased on all other sections. I felt I could score higher, so I had tried again). I am concerned about the final CARS, however.
3. State: Florida
4. Ethnicity: Asian (ORM). US Citizen
5. Top 15 undergraduate; major is in the social-sciences
6. Clinical Experience (all in volunteer capacity): 60 hours of hospice, 100+ hours of serving as a patient advocate at a low-income peds primary care clinic (coordinating with PCPs/care-providers to address issues with health insurance, public benefit applications, and other aspects of the social-determinants of health).
7. I have basic science research experience, 500+ hours across 3 years. I have 1 review paper publication from one lab, co-first author. I am conducting my own independent project in my current lab, that I hope to acquire a few poster presentations for before AMCAS submission.
8. Shadowing: 60 hours (25 hours with general practitioner, 25 hours with anesthesiology, 10 hours with cardiology)
9. Non-clinical volunteering:
- Mentor for academic science department for a full year (~100 hours)
- tutoring/teaching homeless individuals at local homeless resource center (~100 hours) as part of a employment specialist team
10. Leadership:
I hold a leadership position in the organization that I partake in patient advocacy for (for about 1 semester so far). I also hold leadership in Greek life for about a semester. I have leadership experiences (starting a new school tradition), but they may be tricky to make it onto the AMCAS since they lack a formal advisor/organization name at the moment.
11. Relevant honors/awards: N/A at the moment. Dean’s List, but that’s a dime in a dozen, I’ve heard.

I’m trying to build a cohesive narrative!! I genuinely have learned so much from all of my experiences and feel ready to apply this cycle. I would like to hear any and all feedback however—please be as critical as possible. If you feel it looks like I need more hours somewhere, or am lacking some experiences elsewhere, please comment that politely!

Schools I feel I can apply to:
- state schools (UF, UMiami)
- Wayne State
- Wright State
- Wake Forest
- Georgetown
- Michigan

- UVA
- Einstein
- Tufts
- Thomas Jefferson

Reaches:
- UCLA, UCSF
- Pitt
- Feinberg (Northwestern)
- Duke
- Vanderbilt

Stats are good, but you are light on volunteering. You will need to be clear (in essays and interviews) why you want to be a physician.

I agree that your work with the homeless is your best example of community service, and it would help you to get more hours. Can you link it to your work with the low-income clinic?
I definitely think both have a strong connection with each other! Often in the low-income clinic, I have seen many patients come in who are on the verge of losing housing (eviction, etc.) and part of my job is to help evaluate their needs and help them apply to eviction prevention programs, connect them with helpful resources, and/or connect them with case managers/social workers on site. A lot of the role involves discussions with the physicians/care providers to understand the patient's background and what they're going through at home, and how we can help facilitate an environment for them that's conducive to actually adapting and following a healthier lifestyle. I'll definitely do some more thorough thinking on how they relate to each other. Thank you!!
