Hi everyone,

I'm a low SES, 1st gen immigrant URM (Cuban) hoping to apply this cycle. I was hoping that I could get some input on my current school list and see if there are any changes I should make. I'm hoping to apply this cycle and wanted to know if there's a possibility of getting accepted somewhere. I haven't taken the MCAT yet (I'm taking it late June), and so far, my FL practice exams have been around the 501 range (my last FL score was a 502). I'm hoping to be around the 505 range by the end of the month. If you have any tips on how I should be studying during the remainder of my MCAT studying months, I would very much appreciate it! As for my academic/extracurricular breakdown:

  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS - 3.84 cGPA, 3.79 sGPA
  2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown - averaging 501, last FL was a 502 (125/123/127/127)
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US) - FL
  4. Ethnicity and/or race - URM, Hispanic
  5. Undergraduate institution or category - FIU
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer) - 1000 hours as an ER scribe
  7. Research experience and productivity - 150ish hours each in 2 research labs
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented - general surgery and emergency med
  9. Non-clinical volunteering -
    1. 100 hours as a volunteer STEM facilitator teaching middle schoolers
    2. 800 hours as a daycare volunteer
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc) -
    1. planning on becoming a daycare teacher in my gap year
    2. 2 years as a VP of an organization I co-founded
  11. Relevant honors or awards - Dean's list several semesters and a part of Phi Beta Kappa
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important - immigrant from Cuba and lived in a rural, medically underserved town in the US the majority of my life

Without an actual MCAT score it is not possible to determine if your list is appropriate. However, state public schools such as Quillen, Rutgers, Alabama, LSU and Cooper Rowan accept very few non residents with no connection to the state. Post your score here when available.
