Just looking for some advice on my school list and things for the 2025-26 cycle. Potentially looking to pare down the list a bit, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
  1. 3.82 cGPA / 3.81 sGPA ; no particular trend
  2. 518 (129/129/131/129) first attempt
  3. CT resident
  4. White ORM
  5. Cornell
  6. Volunteer clinical: EMT for college EMS (2600 hrs), local FD EMT (1200 hrs)
Paid clinical: private 911/IFT EMT (650 hrs)
  7. Undergrad wet lab (700 hrs, no pubs expected by time of application, but later)
NIH IRTA (1800 hrs by application, 3800 hrs projected total; expecting minimum 1 pub and poster by application with potential for more)
  8. 60 hrs mixed (peds, anesthesia, radiology), also a decent amount shadowing an NP
  9. Volunteer outdoor adventure program guide (700 hrs)
Volunteer belayer for a Parkinson's climbing program (60 hrs by application, 160 projected total)
  10. Undergrad TA x2 (100 hrs each), volunteer CPR/First Aid instructor (150 hrs), major leadership in college EMS (700 hrs), student employment (350 hrs), non-research lab summer work (400 hrs),
  11. N/A
  12. N/A
First draft school list, ordered in from baseline - target - reach as it was given in Admit.org. I'm mostly wondering if it is worth applying to this many top schools with my stats given as I'm on the lower end of their ranges. I figured if I think I have a shot I should apply broadly, but if you have thoughts please let me know! Also, I've included many schools that are traditionally NY IS focused because historically OOS applicants from my school have done well applying there, I recognize that they are IS-biased.

Your list looks reasonable. What support are you getting from your prehealth team at Cornell and NIH?

Clearly your involvement with the outdoors is your anchor for your non-clinical experiences. EMS is helpful too. It sounds to me like you could be focused on going towards disaster/wilderness medicine, so I would look for programs that can help you scratch that itch.

Just one list from the internet

Otherwise, I would do what I can to add traditional service orientation activities: food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation.

I’ve scheduled preapplication appointments with the advisors at Cornell and the NIH for the next month, will have follow up appointments to review work/activities and PS as it becomes necessary.

You are correct about the outdoor involvement. The student employment I listed is also a climbing related job. I have some experience with wilderness medicine through the outdoor guide program I worked for so I appreciate that list you sent.

Do you think it is absolutely necessary to pursue further non clinical volunteering? Unfortunate, I likely do not have the time to engage in anything meaningfully with work and other commitments at the moment.

Thanks for your response!

You may want to check with Cornell about this if you want a committee letter. Some schools may be flexible.

Ah yes I forgot to mention, I have 4/5 of letters written already and will be getting their letter packet.

Edit: forgot to mention, they only do a packet now and not an actual committee letter.
