I've been freaking out a little about finalizing by school list but this is what I have so far. Thanks in advance for helping 🙂

  • State/Country of Residence: MN
  • Ties to other States/Regions: NC, IN, GA (previously lived there)
  • URM? (Y/N): N
  • Year in School: Senior
  • Undergraduate Major(s)/Minor(s): Neuroscience (minor in Sustainability Studies, minor in History)
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.87
  • Science GPA: 3.81
  • MCAT Score(s): 514 (127,130,129, 128)
  • Research Experience: 2+ years (500 hours) in neuroscience lab, summer research internship with biotechnology company
  • Publications/Abstracts/Posters (include how you were credited e.g. first author, second author, etc.): Publication in process, 3rd author. Honors thesis.
  • Clinical Experience (paid or volunteer): 200+ hours as a ED scribe, 400+ hours as ED technician (current position, expected to have ~1500 hours by the time of matriculation)
  • Physician Shadowing: none 🙁 shadowing got canceled cause of COVID
  • Non-Clinical Volunteering: 50 hours at a food shelf program
  • Other Employment History: TA for neuroscience class, Physics and genetics tutor

You have a solid application. Yes the lack of shadowing isn't ideal, but you also have hundreds of hours as a scribe that should give you exposure to how physicians work. Your non-clinical volunteering is on the low side.

Of your list, I think the following schools are low yield: Stony Brook, Downstate, UNC, Maryland. Mostly because they are state schools outside of your region, and you generally need to have above average stats for them when an applicant is OOS. If you truly have strong ties to NC then you can keep UNC.


I think those would be better replaced with: SLU, Rochester, Temple, Jefferson, Georgetown, GWU, Emory.
