Hello, first time posting so I hope I'm doing this right. Does my school list look ok, and are there any others I should add? Thank you! 🙂

cGPA 3.88, MCAT 514 (127/128/131/128)
WI Resident (ties to AZ, sorta ties to MN)
ORM Asian
Clinical: 2000+ hours employment as an EMT (+2000 projected), 50 hours hospice volunteering (+50 projected)
Research: 600 hours over 3 years, 2nd author publication (Also a virtual poster presentation at a school held event)
Shadowing: 35 hours in person, 45 hours virtual shadowing
Non-clinical volunteering: 50 hours at a food pantry (+50 projected)

1 LOR from shadowing physician (I worked as a unit clerk and knew him for a year, fairly strong letter)
1 LOR from my research lab PI (I was highly involved in generating data and wrote a lot of the final pub)
1 LOR from hospice volunteer coordinator (I've been there since 2022, also should be a pretty strong letter)

School list (28 total)

Consider adding Kansas, SLU, Missouri-Columbia, Creighton and Nebraska. I don't like Dartmouth, Western Michigan, Tufts, Hackensack and Vermont on your list.

Do not add KU, Nebraska or Missouri-Columbia. They take very few OOS students, and they likely attended undergrad there or are from a bordering state. Geisinger, Arizona, West Virignia and Minnesota are similar. Creighton is a service school and will expect more non-clinical hours. Oakland, Wayne State and Loyola are also service-heavy schools. Carle is meant for engineering majors.

Try moving your hospice hours to non-clinical on AMCAS if you have not submitted as it would help for other schools.

What are your ties to AZ and MN?

I suggest:

UW Madison
MCW
UIllinois (high tuition FYI)
Carle Illinois (only if engineering major)
Rosalind Franklin
UColorado
Eastern Virginia
Vermont
Wayne State
Oakland
Creighton
Saint Louis
Western Michigan
Ohio State
Cincinnati
Wake Forest
Hackensack
Tufts
Penn State
Jefferson
Temple
Quinnipiac
George Washington
Dartmouth
Albert Einstein
Rochester
Albany
NYMC
Miami
Nova MD

Thank you so much! I will look into the schools you listed.

I agree, I looked into those schools already and wasn't sure why they were suggested due to the low OOS %.

My dad did his residency with Geisinger, and I lived there for four years. I lived in Arizona for eight years just before undergrad, and my brother goes to college there as well. I have weaker ties to MN, my partner has family there so I've spent a lot of time there, I was going to risk the lower acceptance on the chance we could be closer to them. Is West Virgina not worth it would you say?

I took higher-level math courses during undergrad so I meet Carle's prereqs, and their curriculum seemed interesting to me, but I was considering removing it for the reason you mentioned (non-engineering major).

Again, thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it!

You could try the Arizonas but they also have more unique pre-reqs. I would say no to Geisinger and West Virginia.
