  1. cGPA: 3.69, sGPA: 3.69
  2. 519 (130, 129, 130, 130)
  3. PA
  4. White
  5. T50 in 2021 as biology major, chemistry minor
  6. Volunteer: 300 hrs as Fundraising Chair of international medical service organization, traveled to South America in spring 2019 (spring 2020 trip canceled b/c COVID); Paid: 2000 hrs (2000 additional hrs projected by next July) as Advanced PCT in ICU at Lvl 1 Trauma Center
  7. 500 hrs as undergraduate research assistant in materials science chemistry lab w/ 1 publication in JACS
  8. 12 hrs w/ Critical Care in ICU (can I pull hours from paid clinical and put them here?) + 6 hrs w/ elective General Surgery + 12 hrs w/ Trauma Surgery + will continue to shadow throughout final gap year
  9. 100 hrs (300 additional hrs projected by next July) as a 1:1 adult basic education tutor w/ local non profit; 75 hrs as a tutor for local refugee population; 120 hrs as general body member of on-campus organization where I did community outreach and teaching, volunteer events, and tutor university students
  10. Taking two gap years in total, where I work as PCT (listed), tutor w/ local non profit (listed), study/take MCAT, work as a chemistry instructor (not listed: paid 200 hrs + 400 additional hrs projected (depending on # of classes I teach in the future); Additional unlisted: 150 hrs as Vice President of freshman year dorm; 2700 hrs paid restaurant employment throughout undergrad; 100 hrs of TA (2 bio classes) for 2 total semesters
  11. Employee-of-the-Month (January 2022) ICU + 2022 nominee (did not win) for hospital-wide care award (PCT-equivalent of a nursing Daisy); University Honors; Dean’s List all but (I think) 3 sem.
  12. Expecting 4 LOR total: 2 science prof., 1 MD, 1 director. Expecting all to be strong.
Halfway decent writer w/ coherent story to tell and people I trust to review. Goal this next year is to get into research.

Concerned b/c low(er) GPA w/ downward-ish trend: laid off during COVID, money struggles, mental health, etc. etc. (will be discussed in essays) resulting in poor (relative) academic performance.

WAMC + help w/ school list. Would prefer to stay in midwest/Appalachia. I am interested in pursuing research in school w/ an epidemiological focus. I am planning to apply to literally any school that my GPA is w/in range but, overall, am nervous that my GPA restricts where my MCAT would be competitive (as I would like to attend a larger research school).

Current school list:

Ohio State
Pitt
Case (reach)
Penn State
Jefferson
Temple
Drexel
Cincinnati
Miami
BostonU
Geisel (reach)
Georgetown
George Washington
VCU
Mt. Sinai
Columbia (reach)
Hofstra (reach)
Duke (reach)
Emory (reach)
Rochester
Albany
Vandy (donation)
Tulane
Iowa
All chicago schools (NW, UChicago reaches)
UColorado
Stryker MI
WUSTL (b/c why not)

All help + advice appreciated. Happy to answer any q’s or provide clarification.

Your state residency is rather confusing as you describe it, and you should figure out which one best applies to you or gives you more options as an in-state applicant.

Your non-clinical experience is mostly teaching, and it seems other community service listed as clinical occurred outside the US. What other community service do you have?

Edited for clarity--apologies.

I guess all my non-clinical volunteer experience is teaching/tutoring in some capacity.
