I was wondering why you are considering a gap year? We have similar GPA/MCAT but you have way more clinical experience and stronger research experience, and I was also a considering a gap year to improve specifically these two things but am going to go for it. You seem ready to apply (I’m no expert by any means).

Thank you for the responses! Some of my advisors basically pointed out that what I am planning to list as my clinical hours were very concentrated around the same period of time (May-Nov of my freshman-sophomore year). I began the hospital work February of my sophomore year right before covid delayed that indefinitely a month later. I'm not sure how much the lack of like a committed, long-term clinical volunteering experience would hurt me, if that is something I would need to do during a gap year, or even if that would really help my application at all.

Ahhhh gotcha. I mean as just another worried, paranoid premed I'm not 100% sure but I can't imagine that just this would break your app, especially since Covid has been making any kind of unpaid clinical hour commitment harder. I think it just matters that you have the clinical exposure in general and can talk about why it was meaningful/what you learned. The rest of your app seems pretty strong and I can't imagine just the timing of your activities killing your app.
