I would agree with you except that I have a boatload of folks on my waitlist (right now) that look an awful lot like OP holding nowhere.

I guess it's hard to say with the application process; there's no way to know for sure. You could probably subdivide the "little easier" schools into two sections, since you have multiple tiers present in one category.

I think applicants with good stats should have "back up" schools with good stats. I agree with you (I think!).
