WAMC URM: Low MCAT/Decent GPA

Hey everyone, I was wondering what are my chances and if I should apply this cycle.

1. cGPA: 3.61 sGPA: 3.48 AO: 4.00

2. MCAT Scores: 490 (08/19) to 498 (08/20)

3. State of Residence: Arizona

4. Ties to other states: Illinois (born and grew up there)

5. Ethnicity/race: African American Male

6. Clinical Experience (volunteer and non-volunteer): over 900 hours

7. Research Experience: 100 hours in a psychology lab

8. Shadowing: 40 hours shadowing a primary care physician

9. Nonclinical volunteering: 185 hours (food bank and homeless shelter)

10. Extracurricular activities:
  • Tutor for chemistry and biology (150 hours)
  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (3 years)
  • College football (1 season as a walk on)
11. Honors and Awards:
  • Dean's list
  • Top student in Organic Chemistry
12. LOR: 3 science and 1 physician (MD)

That is what I have so far for my school list. Any suggestions such as additions or removals of schools is much appreciated. I am willing to apply to many since I know that my MCAT is low. I am willing to retake the MCAT if needed. Thank you!

Many of these DO schools have MCAT medians in the 498 to 502 range so you should receive interviews.

I can't recommend applying with those MCAT scores. You're too much in the risk zones for failing out of med school and/or failing Boards.

IF test taking anxiety is what's hindering you, that can be fixed.
